19 Things I Learned By 19

On August 21st I turned 19. This is my own personal new year. So going into this year I reflected on the things that I’ve learned and hope to build on in the coming year –

  1. Listen to your body. Sleep when you need it. Workout when you have energy. Eat foods that make you feel good.
  2. “Just because you don’t look like somebody who you think is attractive doesn’t mean you aren’t attractive. Flowers are pretty but so are Christmas lights and they look nothing alike.” ; “Appreciate someone else’s beauty without questioning your own.”
  3. Wake up with a purpose each day.
  4. Be in a constant state of gratitude. That happiness will radiate out of you and make your surroundings beautiful. ; “A man sees in the world what he carries in his heart.”
  5. Spend more time laughing than anything else.
  6. You are exactly where you’re supposed to be.
  7. Your breath will come back, but pride lasts much longer. Fight for it. Be proud of how strong you are, how far you’ve come, and where you’re going.
  8. Work for what you want. Be willing to give your all to the things that mean something to you.
  9. You will find your place in this world.
  10. Don’t give up. On anything. Ever. Quitting is not an option for you.
  11. Be responsible. Accountable. Punctual. Respectable. Be the kind of person that you admire.
  12. Get out of your comfort zone. Find comfort in the uncomfortable.
  13. Read more. You can never read enough.
  14. Drink water like it’s going out of style.
  15.  Say as you do and do as you say.
  16. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love.” – Rumi
  17. Show up for the people who show up for you. Show up for the people who don’t. Don’t judge anyone, you don’t know their story. Just love everyone with all that you have even if you don’t feel like they deserve it because odds are they need it. We all do.
  18. Never stop trying to find yourself. Nothing is permanent and you are always growing. ; “You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress, simultaneously.”
  19. Don’t underestimate yourself. You are capable of more than you know.
